Administrative/Biographical history: Civil parishes were established by the Local Government Act 1894. The civil parishes took over some responsibilities previously administered by the vestry of the (ecclesiastical) parish. In 1974, parish councils in Wales became known as community councils or town councils and some existing boundaries were altered.


Scope and content/abstract: Records of Aberdare parish including tithe plan and apportionment, 1847; vestry minute books, 1819-1904; assistant overseers' rate books, 1844-1849; church rate book, 1840-1842; surveyors' account (Cefnpennar), 1832-1844.
