Administrative/Biographical history: The Town Council was created in 1974, taking over some of the more localised functions of Penarth Urban District Council which was dissolved at that time (the UDC's other functions passing to Vale of Glamorgan District Council). Some of the records in this collection predate Penarth UDC's creation in 1894 and are in effect 'civil parish' records created by the ecclesiastical parish vestry.
Scope and content/abstract: Penarth Town Council: signed minutes and agenda papers, 1974-2010; and records of Penarth parish comprising assistant overseers rate books, 1869-1891; gas rate books, 1870-1873; street lighting rate books, 1871-1876; sanitary rate book, 1875; copy of tithe plan and apportionment, 1847 [copied 1980]; notice of gas rate, 1873.
