Administrative/Biographical history: Established under the provisions of the Welsh Intermediate Education Act 1889, Merthyr Tydfil Intermediate/County Secondary school was built by Glamorgan County Council then later transferred to Merthyr Tydfil Borough Council. It was opened in 1897 to accomodate 180 pupils but was also later enlarged to accomodate 400.
