Administrative/Biographical history: Baglan is an ancient parish within the western division of the rural deanery of Upper Groncath in the diocese of Llandaff. It is situated on the coast of the Bristol Channel 1 mile south-east of Briton Ferry and is divided into the townships of Lower and Higher Baglan. Its parish church was dedicated to St. Baglan, who was a deciple of St. Illtyd. The church of St. Catharine was erected in 1882 on the site of the old church.
