Administrative/Biographical history: General Orders were issued by the Chief Constable to police stations. The orders cover procedures for police officers for occasions such as Royal Visits, local events and sporting fixtures as wellas for the more routine duties such as inspections of officers and parades. The orders also inform officers of any changes made to the law and procedures for dealing with various offences.

Archival history: The volumes originated at the Chief Station of Cardiff Borough/City Police. However, the records were found in the offices of the South Wales Echo newspaper in 2004. An article on the volumes subsequently appeared in the newspaper and a copy is stored with the records.
