CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: The manor of Wentsland and Bryngwyn, Monmouthshire was owned by the Webb family until the death of Elizabeth Francis Webb in 1877. The manor included land in the parish of Abersychan, which contained coal and other mineral resources, which were exploited by James Hoiskin and others in the early 20th century. The rights to the mineral resources then passed to Margaretta Tovey and David John Elliott of Newbridge, Monmouthshire, in c.1941.

CONTENT

Scope and content/abstract: Records relating mainly to land in the parishes of Abersychan and Trevethin, Monmouthshire, 1802-1966, including copies of the court roll of the manor of Wentsland and Bryngwyn, 1847-1912; deeds relating to the mineral rights of land in Blaenycwm, in the parish of Aberysychan, 1899-1966.
