CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: The Llantarnam estate included land in the parish of Llanfihangel Llantarnam, Monmouthshire, in the manors of Redcastle and Magna Porta. Henry and Blanch Phillip held land in the parish from [c.1779]. Their son, Henry Phillips (fl. 1766-1801), held the land during the late 18th century. His widow, Ann Phillips (d. [c.1858]) continued to hold the land until [c.1852], when all her landed and personal estate was divided between her two daughters, Blanch and Elizabeth. John Jenkins [fl. 1854-1860] of Caerleon, Monmouthshire, held lands in Caerleon during the mid 19th century. He devised his estate to his wife, Margaret and his sons, William and Alexander Howell.
