CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Henry Williams (fl. 1879-1890) farmed at Cefn Emrys, Llandwrog, Caernarfonshire. He was the father-in-law of Thomas Hughes (fl. 1900-1948), of Bachwen (Bach Wen) farm, Clynnog-fawr, Caernarfonshire. Thomas' son, David Arthur Hughes ([1897]-[c. 1982]) also farmed at Bachwen, moving to Ynysfa, Llanwnda, in about 1974. Both Thomas and David Hughes were members and elders of Ebenezer Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, Clynnog-fawr.

Scope and content/abstract: Papers relating mainly to Bachwen, Clynnog-fawr, 1874-1982, including farm diaries of Henry Williams, 1883-1903, Thomas Hughes, 1905-1945, and David Arthur Hughes, 1923-1981; account books and bills from Cefn Emrys and Bachwen, 1879-1982; remembrance cards, 1874-1906; papers relating to Ebenezer Chapel, Clynnog-fawr, and other churches, 1906-1982, including programmes, 1961-1982, membership cards, 1946-1976, annual reports, 1926-1980, and financial records, 1906-[1976]; agriculture-related material, 1921-1971, including summaries of laws and membership cards; deeds relating to Llanllyfni, 1884-1901; Hughes family and other photographs, [post 1886]-1940; postcards and Christmas cards, 1907-1928, 1958; and Ordnance Survey maps of Caernarfonshire, 1918.
