CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Harlech station, Merionethshire, was on the Aberystwyth and Welsh Coast Railway, situated between Llandanwg and Tygwyn. Construction began on the railway from 1861, and Harlech station was built some time after the Aberystwyth and Welsh Coast Railway amalgamated with Cambrian Railways in 1865. In 1922, Cambrian Railways became part of the Great Western Railway, which itself became the British Railways, Western Region in 1948. The station remains in use.
