Administrative/Biographical history: Pen yr Orsedd, Cemlyn, is situated in the parish of Llanrhwydrys, Anglesey. Property at Pen yr Orsedd was occupied by Grace Thomas (1807-1885), a daughter of Owen Thomas, who married John Hughes of Monachdy (1800-1870). They had a son, Owen Hughes, who married Margaret Williams of Llanfwrog, Anglesey. Grace Thomas was a descendent of Thomas Prys (or Price), who died ca. 1807.


Scope and content/abstract: Collection comprises material relating to Thomas Prys and his descendants, the Hughes family, of Pen yr Orsedd (sometimes referred to as Tyn yr Orsedd) including: Rent receipts and papers relating to the will of Thomas Prys, 1751-1808 Notebook in shorthand written by Grace Hughes, on sermons, texts and preachers in the Llanrhuddlad/Cemlyn area, 1837-1840 Letters to Owen Hughes, from his mother Grace and others, 1840-1845 Account of property left by Catherine Hughes of Monachdy, 1847 Sundry account book for Pen yr Orsedd, 1850-1852 Highway rate book for the parish of Llanrhwydrys, 1858-1873 Inventory of goods and chattels of John Hughes, 1871 Apportionment of rents, tithes and rates for Ty fatw, Llanrhwydrys, 1873 Miscellaneous letters, bills and receipts
