CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Rev. Thomas Ellis, born in Flintshire, became the curate of Holyhead in 1737, having graduated from Jesus College Oxford. He was, according to Emyr Gwynne Jones, former Librarian of the University of Wales Bangor, the esteemed friend and confidant of the Morris brothers and their circle . He married in 1762 and died in 1792 at the age of 80.

CONTENT

Scope and content/abstract: Photocopies of three letters written by Rev. Thomas Ellis to Rev. Humphrey Owen, Rev. M.J. Hoare and Dr Edward Wynne, 1742 November 2 - 1743 October 17. One is a treatise on Welsh idioms and the others discuss the conversion of Capel y Gwyddel into a charity school.
