CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Thomas Griffiths of St Mary's, Ceredigion, was apprenticed as a ship's carpenter to David Williams of Netpool in 1814. His wife Mary and their children lived at Ceredigion. Their son David was also a sailor who travelled around the United States and the West Indies.

Scope and content/abstract: Comprises: indenture of apprenticeship of Thomas Griffiths to David Williams, November 1814; letter from Mary Griffiths to her husband in Liverpool, 9 September 1832; letter from David Griffiths in Havana, Cuba, to his father in Liverpool, 7 May 1837.
