Administrative/Biographical history: Henry Barber was a solicitor based in Bangor, Gwynedd. He is the co-author of The history of Friars School, Bangor , 1901.


Scope and content/abstract: A copy made by Henry Barber of a journal or voyage from Bellair (Tarvin, Cheshire) to Llanrwst, 1769. The unknown traveller affects nautical terms throughout, is impressed by the inordinate number of harpers and fiddlers he heard, is very hard on the habits and indolence of the Welsh and spells Welsh words atrociously. Gives an account of the ascent of the Great Orme, Llandudno, the excellence of Welsh mutton and references to the Llandudno copper mines.
Also, a letter on the subject of Dinas Dinorwig by F. R. Barber, 1915, with a description by J. O. Halliwell Phillips (1860) and a plan by Henry Barber (1856) enclosed.
