Administrative/Biographical history: William Hughes, cobbler, was also known by his bardic name, Gwilym Prysor . Born in 1826, he lived in Dolwyddelan, Caernarfonshire and was the father of Rev. William Pari Huws, Dolgellau.


Scope and content/abstract: The collection consists of songs and poems composed for various special occasions; sermons preached on the opening of a chapel in Dolwyddelan; a letter from Gwilym Prysor to the Baroness Willoughby de Eresby; an address on the moral deterioration of Wales; essays on various subjects; and a draft of the poem Meirionnydd .
Also included are essays written by John Parry Hughes and R. R. Hughes, Dolwyddelan, and a collection of verses by Robert P. Hughes of Bangor, Pennsylvania, United States, sons of Gwilym Prysor .

System of arrangement: The papers were received by the Department at two separate occasions and as a result, they have been catalogued as two separate groups within the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts . There is no apparent system of arrangement.

Immediate source of acquisition: The second group of papers were given to the Department by the nephew of Gwilym Prysor , Dr G. Pari-Huws of Old Colwyn, Denbighshire.
