CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: The North Wales Expressway, also known as the A55, was built in sections from the 1970's onwards up until the mid 1990's. Most recently, the dual carriageway along Anglesey has been completed making it possible to travel all along the north Wales coast to Holyhead on a continuous dual carriageway.

CONTENT

Scope and content/abstract: Alternative proposals to the Secretary of State's preferred route of the North Wales Expressway Action Group, 1973.
Files of correspondence, circulars, maps, plans, pamphlets etc. relating to the proposed Bangor Bypass, 1978-1985.
Progress report on the Conwy Crossing (the tunnel carrying the A55 under the Conwy Estuary) published by the Welsh Office, 1987.
