Administrative/Biographical history: Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire, was granted a borough charter by Llewelyn ap Gruffydd ap Gwenwynwyn, Lord of Mechain, in 1293. The Corporation was reconstituted as a municipal borough under the Municipal Corporations Act 1882 and granted a Charter of Incorporation in 1885. It was subsequently run by a Borough Council, including a Mayor and Aldermen, elected by the ratepayers. The Council also employed officials such as a Clerk, Treasurer and Housing Officer and later a Rating Officer. Llanfyllin Borough Council was abolished in 1974 with its functions being assumed by Montgomeryshire District Council.


Scope and content/abstract: Records of Llanfyllin Borough Council, 1848-1977, comprising financial records, 1935-1974; rating and valuation records, 1939-1977; register of council dwellings, 1938-1970; surveyor's postage book, 1963-1974; and tithe award, 1848, 1869.
