CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Llanfechain ecclesiastical parish, Montgomeryshire, is part of the Diocese of St Asaph. The vestry consisted of the minister, churchwardens and other parishioners, meeting in the parish church, St Garmon's. Their civil responsibilities included poor rates and highways. Under the Local Government Act 1894 the two functions were separated with parish councils being established to handle civil administration.
