Administrative/Biographical history: In 1974, Breconshire was amalgamated with Radnorshire and Montgomeryshire to create the new Powys County Council, as part of the restructuring of local government. Powys County Council in Llandrindod Wells is a Welsh unitary authority with seventy-three elected councillors. It serves a population of 129,300 residents. There are records relating to the Breconshire County Council which was formed under the Local Government Act 1888 and took over many administrative duties of the Court of Quarter Sessions. John Beddows was head teacher of Presteigne Grammar School between 1956 and 1966. He was sent to prison for three years and after he came home because he embezzled school funds.
