CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: There is material relating to touring in the county of Radnorshire. Patricia Parris wrote The trial of Mary Morgan - a quest, in 1991. Walter Harold Powell was involved in preparations for the Llandrindod Wells War Memorial after the Second World War. Miss R.W. Probert (b. 1906) visited Llandrindod Wells when she was three years old. She was staying with her family at the Landsdowne Hotel, South Crescent. Stanage parish was originally part of the parish of Brampton Bryan. The Rev. John Rogers, resided at Stanage Park at the foot of the Radnorshire hills. W. J. H Watkins was a teacher at the Grammar School, and later the Secondary Modern; also a supply teacher and a keen photographer of Nantywellan. The dams and reservoirs in the beautiful Elan valley were built in order to supply the people living in Birmingham with water. The Elan estate is very important for land birds in Wales. There are papers relating to Pentre Moel, Aberedw, Radnorshire.

Archival history: The items were previously miscoded R/DX/18. Photocopies were donated by Mr Walter Harold Powell, Llandrindod Wells, of photographs and other memorabilia. Miscellaneous papers and those relating to Stanage Park, Knighton were purchased in 1991. Picture postcards of the Elan Valley dams were donated by R. Bailey, Builth Wells. The items relating to Pentre-Moel, Aberedw were donated by Mrs. Rablen. There is an item donated by Richard Morgan, Llandrindod Wells, in 1992. Some photocopies were donated by Miss R. W. Probert.
