CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: Alfred Neobard Palmer, 1847-1915, was chief chemist at Brymbo Steel Works. He devoted his retirement, from 1886, to local historical research on Wrexham and North East Wales. He also worked as an investigator for the RCAHMW, contributing field work to the first three inventories. He publshed 10 books, including a series on the history of Wrexham. The notebooks were produced throughout his retirement, and contain his research on the area's history.

ARCHIVAL INFORMATION

Archival history: The original notebooks, held by Clwyd Record Office and the National Library of Wales, were published in microfiche by Clwyd Record Office, and a copy was purchased by NMRW in 1992.

Immediate source of acquisition: Purchased from Clwyd Record Office.

Existence and location of originals: Most of original notebooks held by Clwyd Record Office, except for five, which are held by the National Library of Wales.
