V" ed. Joan Thirsk, 1984, and later in a revision to certain chapters of this volume, entitled "The Buildings of the Countryside 1500-1750" ed. M.W. Barley, 1990. Peter Smith is an architectural historian and former Secretary of RCAHMW.
