CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history: S. Dawson Ware (alive 1932-1950s), mining engineer, was principal partner in D.W. Holdings, active in lead mining in the Llanrwst area, Caernarfonshire, 1932-1948. D. W. Holdings leased Frith (Fridd), Cyffty, the Parc Mine group (Parc, Hafna, Llanrwst, Gwynliffian), Pandora and Pool Mines, Eagle, and Gorlan mines, Caernarfonshire. Dawson Ware also negotiated with Lord Willoughby d'Eresby for a lease for mining the Gwydir Estate in the 1950s, and with Hermann Goering A.G. for a proposed exchange of equipment for lead and zinc in the late 1930s. Dawson Ware amassed sale catalogues and published and unpublished information on past production and ore reserves, and also compiled notes and summaries based upon these and other documents.

Scope and content/abstract: Notes, abstracts and sale catalogues, Llanrwst lead mines, 1879-1917; correspondence and other papers relating to East Snowdon mines, water power and Gwydir Castle [1930s]; correspondence and notes on Gwydir Estate, Llanrwst mine and Vale of Conway mine, [1930s-1950s]; reports on output and resources and other documentents relating to mines including Parc, Pandora, Eagle, Llanrwst, Gorlan, Hafna, Gwydir Valley Workings, East Snowdon mines, [19th century]-[1930s]; and notes on zinc ore resources, 1914-1948.
