Administrative/Biographical history: In 1940, with an invasion of Britain by Nazi Germany seemingly imminent, Lord Beaverbrook, the British Minister for Aircraft Production, instigated a campaign to salvage waste to help the war effort. Local salvage operations were set up all over the country, and the campaign in Cardiganshire was led by the Cambrian News, a newspaper based in Aberystwyth. The documents in this collection were accumulated by the Cambrian News campaigns, and were among those papers destined for recycling, but they were retained as they were felt to have particular historical value.

Scope and content/abstract: Documents, 1818-1941, mostly of late-nineteenth century Cardiganshire interest, which were collected by and recovered from the Cambrian newspaper salvage campaign, 1940-1941, comprising miscellaneous items including tradesmen's and business records, personal diaries and note-books, hymn and music books, rules for Cardiganshire miners, a school attendance book, and the account book of a brig.
